Yesterday Seth wrote about the Algorithms, so today, I thought I’d add my penny’s worth, except it won’t be in quite the same mellow and composed tone.
If you know me, you will know I don’t care about the algorithms. Neither should you. You shouldn’t waste a single second wondering what they are, when they change and how to beat them. Why? Because they don’t matter.
The algorithms have one purpose – to serve the interests of the platform founders. So the likes of Google, Facebook, Reddit, Pinterest, Tumblr, and whoever else you want to add to the list; they have one thing on their mind, which is “How do we deliver the best service to our customers who happen to be our investors?”
Okay, maybe I got it wrong. Perhaps you do need to know how to beat the algorithms. And this is how – you have to have one thing on mind, “How do we deliver the best service to our customers, who may also be our investors?”. Because if you can do that, if you can create content your customers like, it’ll get you more airtime.
Don’t believe me? Fine. It doesn’t matter to me. I’ve managed to build brands attracting 1M+ fans without checking the algorithms once. I check the stats but not the algorithms. So, if you want to fit those neat little boxes instead of getting on with the real creative work that your customers love you for, that’s entirely on you, kiddo.
And that’s me done on the subject in an intense and passionate tone.
