It’s 2021, you know. The pandemic has us all uttering the words, “It the new normal. It’s time to change; we all need to adapt”.
Most of us have accepted the idea that things will be different, and we’re not going back to the way it used to be. But here’s the thing – in business, there has been a new normal for a long while now. It’s called the ‘new marketing’ would you believe? I’m being facetious.
Your astuteness, I guess, may also lead you to agree that we no longer need to take our cues from the big boys; the heavyweights; the Disneys, the Nikes and the Apples. As great as they are and perhaps will always be, we don’t have to follow in their footsteps; we can create our own worlds. And where do we get the permission? From ourselves – in the fabulous universe of social media.
Bye, bye to the rules of business yesteryear. Greetings to the present day, where we have landed on unexplored territory and, no one truly knows what lies ahead. Some will be finding their feet, and while they are, others of us can focus on innovative and unconventional routes.
As long as we are not afraid, we can do things our way. There’s just about enough time while no one is watching or realising, whilst they’re still riding the tide, where we can lean into the wind. Yes! It’s a new era, and we’re grasping on to it.
So don’t be intimidated by the heavyweights. Don’t ever believe there isn’t a space made just for you and me. As sad as it is, it is also true that the champions don’t reign on the throne forever. Eventually, the trophies are passed down. Whether you like it or not, in the race of life, the baton often changes hands. And someone, like you and me, takes the chance to be in the front.
So in this period of a new marketing, be bold, take your stand to lead the change, write history, and do something wildly refreshing.
