When I first dipped my toes into the world of social media, my strategy was quite straightforward but, let’s face it, a bit rigid. Sat before a camera, I’d dish out advice rooted in my own professional journey and research. Whether it was my delivery or perhaps something else entirely, I soon realised my impact wasn’t hitting the mark I’d aimed for. This revelation led me to a pivot—a shift from mere telling to meaningful showing. By demonstrating the art of crafting compelling content, I could help people not only understand but also visualise the outcomes. In essence, my goal was to take my audience on a transformative journey, enriching their experience and making the lessons stick.

Interestingly, Adobe—an industry giant in creative software—has traversed a similar path. As someone who actively uses Adobe’s Creative Software Suite for my own content creation, I’ve observed a pivotal change in their marketing strategy. Adobe used to concentrate on features, appealing largely to a niche group who could instantly see the software’s capabilities. But, much like my own journey, Adobe pivoted to a ‘showing’ approach. Their current content vividly brings to life the stunning creations made possible by their software. This change has significantly widened Adobe’s appeal, enticing a diverse range of creators to invest in the software after witnessing its dynamic capabilities in action.

Stories captivate us in a way that simple facts can. First off, they’re simply entertaining—that’s a given. But more crucially, stories paint vivid mental pictures that become etched in our memories. This lasting impact is exactly what makes storytelling resonate so deeply. Instead of serving up a slew of prescriptive advice that may or may not click, stories offer relatable, real-world scenarios. They offer frameworks your audience can easily relate to their own experiences. This makes the message both understandable and actionable.
