Why do we ignore the signals?

Posted by - Bess Obarotimi

Why do we ignore the signals when our gut is telling us this or that isn’t working? That inner alarm bell is ringing, and our sixth sense is saying customers don’t like what you’re doing, or you need to improve on that, but we choose to think if we keep on trying, eventually the customers will come round to our way of thinking.

Sure we have blind spots where we genuinely can’t sense where things are going wrong. But other times, there is a loud bally sound going off inside of us saying, “Enough is enough. Your strategy is weak, and no one likes it. Do something.” But some of us do nothing.

Are our egos that big that we choose to ignore the signals?

I’ve been there. I’ve tried to cut corners. And I’ve hoped that I wouldn’t face the same troughs as my esteemed predecessors – not all of the time but definitely from time to time. I’ve learnt my lessons now. For one, there are no shortcuts, and you don’t have to figure it out on your own.

And then there are those poor souls who never learn the lesson. The lone rangers who know best, doing the same thing, expect a new result. What’s that the definition of you say?

Why do we ignore the signals when it costs nothing to try something new, get better, work harder, improve? We must serve the customers, and if there is no response, something needs to change and keep on changing until we crack it.
