It was such a strange time for me. I loved creating content and managing campaigns, but then, gradually, I just became sick of consuming content. I didn’t want to see anyone else’s content, and eventually, I didn’t want to create it either.
I shouldn’t say I was sick of it; rather, I was just bored out of my mind. It all felt shallow with everyone vying for my attention. So, I became bored of creating content and it left me uninspired by it all. Besides, it would have been hypocritical to ask for the same attention I was no longer willing to give. Consequently, I lost interest in managing social media or looking after anyone’s campaigns.
Then, I started thinking about property investment quite accidentally but with real interest. It started with watching shows like ‘Selling Sunset’ and ‘The Property Millionaire’, would you believe? It helped that I was managing the social media campaign of a client who was in the sector so I was developing an understanding of what it involved and felt like my personality and work ethic would be suited.
With all these influences and the idea of doing social media becoming less appealing, I asked myself: Could I become a property millionaire? I thought I could, but I didn’t know where to start so it felt like a wish more than an idea really.
And I must say, using the term ‘millionaire’ might be far-fetched, but in this instance, I used it to encapsulate the idea of excelling at finding landlords, property owners, and investors, and helping them make more money. The whole concept of becoming a ‘millionaire’ was almost like a means to an end—it wasn’t the actual goal, just a product of the goal and not the motivator.
Meanwhile, I ran into a dilemma with the property social media client. It was partly related to the career doubts I was having and partly because I felt like the client would need to dig deeper into his pockets to do the kind of social media that would work. But mostly it had to do with me not buying into the product we were pushing.
It’s really important to believe in the product you’re trying to sell, so I went back to my property friend to share with him my client’s product, get his opinion on it and hopefully build my belief in it. He only fueled my doubts but suddenly I realised my dreams of being a property professional could be made a reality.
Here I was talking to the same guy who wanted to introduce me to the game a few months earlier. If I joined forces with this guy he could get me going. I’d had some time to really understand the property market and his initial proposal became more appealing even if the financial side was still not so. But that slight issue could be made better with time. I was thinking, with time, this could be my way out. Plus, I could use my social media skills to really build something special.
The whole set of circumstances felt like divine order, because I’d been praying about aligning my desire with my actions. So maybe this was far from circumstantial. Even so, with this realisation, it still took a whole year to mentally and emotionally transition from who I was, and what I was doing, to this whole new phase in my life. But I feel like I have made great strides and am ready to take the property market by the horns.
The plan is to document as much as I can through blogs and social media content, so I hope you can stay with me, be inspired and see how it goes.
